You know how when kids draw houses, they almost universally draw them as wonky, out-of-proportion, nonsensical, and utterly charming? This is that house. I am proud of this piece because I started with a clear vision of what I wanted to create and executed it well, despite having to climb over the learning curve of working in three dimensions for the first time.
Tensegrity Table — 16 x 16 x 12in, wooden dowels and string. 03/21/22.
This project was all about solving problems: how to create strong joints, how to interlock and suspend the pyramids off each other, how to tension each line to stabilize the table, how to do all of this with only two hands. It was an incredibly frustrating assignment, and I learned more about square lashes and trucker's hitches than I ever thought I would in the name of art, but in the end I was left with a delightfully mind-bending sculpture.
